Dying Your Hair At Home
Coloring your hair at home can be quite a challenge, but can also be necessary. Whether you don't like going to the salon, you haven't found a hair stylist that does it just how you like, or you don't have time to book before an event. I've been using box hair dye at home for years and have discovered a few tricks along the way. Personally, I love going to the salon and having it done. I go regularly to get my roots touched up. However, I used to dye my roots at home. For some reason, when I do it myself, the color turns out exactly as I want it. When I go to the salon, they come out way too dark and fairly black - not the look I'm going for. Eventually it fades into my natural color so it's still worth it to me to go to the salon.

My Favorite Box Hair Dye
The best box hair dye for brunettes that I have found has been the Wella colors from Sally Beauty. I also love the Ion hair dye lines. (Both linked below!) You purchase the color and developer separately to mix at home. Normally the mixture is 1 to 1. This means 1 part color and another equal part of developer. Basically 50/50. Make sense? You can use a hair dye brush or your hands with gloves on if that's easier. Personally I like to use the brush when I'm only dying my roots. When dying my full head, I'll use my hands because it takes less time.
Best Box Hair Dye for Brunettes

I like purchasing my own color because I can decide which shade I'm going for. The Sally Beauty products are also more professional than traditional box dye. That means they won't turn your hair funny colors if you decide to go platinum blonde tomorrow. It's also less damaging compared to a drugstore brand. However, IF you do want to go the drugstore route so you can have the directions, I recommend going with Garnier box dye. It's been my favorite so far and they have such a range of brunette colors.
